Ash wood bowl with feather detail
An Ash bowl with a fascinating, naturally occurring detail that looks like a bird's feather.
Because the Ash tree is going extinct, I take every opportunity to rescue whatever wood I can find and turn it into something useful and beautiful. This bowl is one such example.
It has an open form to ease access to the interior. There is a large, wide bead on the exterior for decoration and to improve grip. Its most distinctive feature, however, is the "feather" on the rim that also appears on the outside as well. I rubbed in and burnished by hand many coats of a food safe oil finish over the course of several days. This lends the bowl a soft, silky feel that is warm to the touch.
The bowl can be used purely as decoration and would look lovely on a bookshelf.
It can also be used as a serving dish and hold chips, dip, nuts, candy and the like. Of course, it can also hold items like jewelry, keys, craft items, and knick-knacks.
Anyone would be delighted to receive this as a gift.
It measures about 7-1/4" wide by 3-1/4" high.
