Lovely catalpa bowls.
I made these two bowls from a lovely piece of catalpa wood. The simplicity of their shapes echo those of bowls of antiquity. They invite the eye inside as well as allowing you easy access to whatever you may choose to store in there.
The bowls have pronounced grain and subdued colors, as is typical of this kind of wood. Also typical, there is a smooth undulation on the surface of the bowls.
The satin appearance and silky feel result from multiple food-safe coats of linseed oil, topped with a linseed oil and natural beeswax combination.
The medium-sized bowl measures about 8.25" wide by 2.25" high, a generous size while not too large. The large-sized bowl measures about 8.75" wide by 2.25" high, a generous size while not too large. Each bowl weighs about 5 ounces.
