Mulberry bowl with turquoise infill.
Dramatically figured, this bowl was made with wood from the mulberry tree, from which the mulberry fruit is obtained.
This particular piece of timber was tortured and usually destined for the burn pile. However, the swirling grain, the interesting knot and voids, and the colors ranging from gold to black, called me to rescue it. I cleaned it and filled it with hand-crushed turquoise set with acrylic resin.
The bowl can be used purely for decoration, or as a serving bowl. It can be used to hold fruit, popcorn, snacks, keys, remotes, knickknacks, etc. You could use it as a salad bowl but that might accelerate the fading of the colors. It’s a sturdy bowl with a nice weight and should last a long time. It would make a much-appreciated gift, if you can bear to part with it.
It measures about 11 inches by 2.5 inches and has a food-safe finish of linseed oil.
