Zebra face profile

$250.00

This stunning piece of bas relief is made of clay by my wife Daria who is a ceramicist. We occasionally collaborate on projects, but this work is almost entirely hers. She made the basic outline of the zebra’s head, then carefully carved the details of the face, adding colored glazes and the eye lashes. The most stressful phase of production was the firing of the piece in the kiln, where so many works crack and go to ruin. But success! Truly a wonderful work which can be displayed on a stand or hung on a wall.

The backing is a piece of American Osage Orange wood that I retrieved from a downed tree on an abandoned farm in New Jersey.
