Flaming Box Elder platter

Spectacular platter made of flaming box elder.  Box elder is a softer member of the maple family.  The flaming is a naturally, but randomly, occurring streaking that creates the highly unusual patterns and coloration that you see here.

This platter has smooth sides that flare out, culminating in a lip that helps you hold and carry it more securely.  It has a few borer holes that I left unfilled to add interest and character.

As a decorative item, it will make a wonderful accent piece on a dining table, or on an entryway table where it could hold mail and keys.  It could also hold dry items like fruit, jewelry, remote controls, or knickknacks.

As a gift, it is sure to draw compliments.

It is a generous size, measuring about 13" by 1-1/2" and is finished with food-safe oil and beeswax.
