Black walnut bowl

A jewel of a bowl.   Made from black walnut and crushed alabaster stone, this petite bowl is truly gem-like.

Alabaster was prized in antiquity for its white, translucent color and was sought after for making statues.

I was fortunate to find this piece of timber that had a naturally occurring void.  I hand-crushed some alabaster and used it to fill the void as well as a channel I cut into the rim.  I then finished the bowl with a durable, glossy polyurethane that makes the whole thing shine.

The bowl can be used purely as a decorative statement and will be sure to draw comments.  It will also make a much-admired gift.

It measures about 5-1/4" by 1-1/2".
